Program Benefits
Professional Development Fund
The orthopedic surgery resident will receive a one-time allotment of $9000 that shall be used for professional books, journals, Board exam fees, surgical loupes, and other educational tools and materials. This fund will also be used to cover any costs associated with travel to an approved course or meeting. Additional funds may be earned by performing physicals for the UW-Madison Athletic Department. These additional funds will be deposited into the resident's account.
Academic Presentations
Residents are encouraged to do research and present their research at major and/or local Orthopedic Professional Meetings. The Department will pay for attendance at one meeting for each research project. Should the resident choose to present the same or similar research at more than one meeting, the money will be deducted from their Professional Development fund. Podium presentations will be covered; poster presentations will only be covered for the ORS and AAOS Annual Meetings, and only two posters will be covered per resident. Absolutely NO money may be accepted from Industry to support attendance of any meeting or course.
Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery
The Department annually orders and pays for the American volume of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS) for each resident.
