We are proud to announce that in November 2018, Kristyn Hare, PA was nominated by her peers for the UW Health Advanced Practice Providers (APP) 2018 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award.

The UW Health APP Excellence Awards were created to recognize nurse practitioners and physician assistants throughout UW Health who demonstrate excellence in the areas of clinical practice, teaching, and leadership.

Kristyn came to the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation in August 2016; specifically, to lead in the development of the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS), a program that provides secondary fracture care for patients sustaining fragility fractures. “I chose the University of Wisconsin because of their reputation of excellence and commitment to compassionate and innovative care,” she explained.

As the leader of the FLS program, Kristyn runs an outpatient clinic dedicated to recognizing, treating and educating patients about osteoporosis and osteopenia and their impact on overall health and wellness. She also provides inpatient consults for patients with pathologic fractures related to these conditions.

In addition to the FLS program, Kristyn has been instrumental in starting and building the department’s “Own the Bone” program. Through the program, Kristyn follows patients after they are diagnosed with a bone health issue and monitors their progress and outcomes.

Kristyn has been referred to as “hardworking,” “compassionate,” “approachable,” and “knowledgeable,” by her peers, and is an invaluable asset to the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation.

When asked what this nomination means to her, Kristyn explained:

“This nomination is really a reflection of the wonderful support and willingness of the department to encourage professional development. They provided me with all the tools I needed to step up and take on this challenge.  We have made great strides in improving the secondary fracture prevention care of adults of our institution in a short time and this has led to additional collaborations with providers in other departments including geriatrics, interventional radiology and the emergency department.  This program is successful because of the deep commitment of the department to provide innovative care and I am humbled to be able to work with such a group of dedicated leaders who are committed to doing the right thing for our patients!”
