Board certified in Plastic Surgery with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand, Dr. Salyapongse focuses on the care of patients presenting with disorders of the upper extremity as well as reconstruction of nerve/soft-tissue defects of the lower extremity. His broad exposure to both Orthopedic and Plastic surgical treatment of the upper extremity enables a comprehensive approach to the full spectrum of conditions encountered by the majority of individuals.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Salyapongse has devoted additional time to leading resident education and helping younger surgeons develop into safe and independent practitioners. As part of this effort, he manages educational curricula, workshops, and lectures at regional and national meetings. Committed to the improvement of hand care globally, he continues these educational efforts with partners around the world through collaborations and fellowships.
Knowing that optimal patient care and education requires vigilance and constant improvement, Dr. Salyapongse seeks to apply the Wisconsin Idea ("never be content until the beneficent influence of the university reaches every family...") to Hand/Upper Extremity care locally, regionally and globally.
Dr. Salyapongse has a passion for educating the future generations of surgeons interested in Hand/Upper Extremity care. This extends not only to domestic training, but also to collaborating with surgeons abroad in low to middle income countries. Most of his recent work focuses on working with Orthopedic Hand Surgeons in Nepal as they develop and train fellows in the only established Hand Fellowship in the country. This commitment has dovetailed with his efforts leading committees in domestic national societies focused on improving and facilitating Global Surgery efforts to improve healthcare availability.
Locally, Dr. Salyapongse focuses on improving resident education and on improving minimally invasive techniques for managing hand and wrist disorders.
