Dr. Haley E. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in Sports Medicine with expertise in the arthroscopic and reconstructive management of the hip, knee, and shoulder. As a dedicated team physician for UW Badgers Athletics, she is committed to the health and performance of athletes at all levels.

Dr. Smith earned her undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary, where she competed as a Division I swimmer. She pursued her medical degree at Georgetown University and completed her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Northwestern University. Following her residency, Dr. Smith honed her skills in Sports, Shoulder and Elbow Surgery during a fellowship at OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. She developed a special interest in hip arthroscopy during her surgical training and traveled to Germany to learn from pioneers in hip preservation.

Dr. Smith is passionate about caring for athletes at all levels – from the weekend warrior to active elderly to the professional. She has experience working with elite sports organizations, including the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, Carolina Panthers, and Charlotte Football Club. She believes in a collaborative approach that prioritizes getting patients back to the activities and sports they love as quickly and safely as possible. By tailoring treatment plans to meet individual needs and goals, Dr. Smith ensures that her patients receive comprehensive care that supports their journey to recovery.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Smith enjoys skiing, playing pickleball, and spending quality time with family and friends. Her commitment to both her patients and her personal interests reflects her holistic approach to health and well-being.
