Dr. Jeffrey Henstenburg is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at UW Health and American Family Children’s Hospital. Dr. Henstenburg brings a wealth of experience to his practice, having completed his residency at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and A.I. Dupont Nemours hospital for Children in Wilmington Delaware. He completed additional training in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at the world renown Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School where he studied advanced techniques in pediatric spine surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine.

Dr. Henstenburg's clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of pediatric orthopaedic conditions, including:

Scoliosis and Spine Deformities: Dr. Henstenburg has a particular interest in the treatment of scoliosis, including adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, early onset scoliosis, kyphosis and other congenital and complex spine deformities. He also treats traumatic spine injuries and fractures, cervical instability, spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis among a myriad of pediatric spine conditions. He is up to date on modern spine technologies including spinal fusion, magnetic growing rods, chest wall expansion/VEPTR and robotic spine surgery.

Sports Injuries: Dr. Henstenburg has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries in children and adolescents such as ACL tears, physeal sparing ACL reconstruction, discoid meniscus, meniscus repair, osteochondritis dessicans, shoulder dislocations, labral tear, elbow arthroscopy and ankle sprains. Fractures and Deformities of the Extremities: Dr. Henstenburg is adept at the management of all types of fractures, growth plate injuries, as well as congenital limb deformity and hip dysplasia.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Henstenburg is a prolific researcher having published in leading orthopaedic journals including the Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Henstenburg regularly attends and presents at international conferences to stay up to date on the latest research and has authored textbook chapters in pediatric spine surgery.

Dr. Henstenburg is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. He is passionate about improving the lives of children and adolescents through evidence-based care and innovative surgical techniques, as well as teaching and mentoring the next generation of surgeons.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Henstenburg is an avid endurance athlete who competes in triathlons, enjoys mountain biking, and backcountry skiing. He also has a keen interest in music and audio engineering.
