Summary

Dr. O'Donnell is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee reconstruction, including primary hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement, complex and revision hip and knee replacement. Dr. O'Donnell has expertise in both anterior and posterior approaches, computer-navigated, and robotic-assisted surgery to achieve personalized, patient-centered treatment goals.

He utilizes modern surgical techniques including minimally invasive approaches, rapid-recovery and pain management protocols to deliver the highest standard of care from initial consultation through full recovery. Dr. O'Donnell works closely with an outstanding team of experienced physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and support staff. This comprehensive team approach ensures a seamless transition from surgery to rehabilitation, helping patients regain strength, mobility, and confidence as quickly and safely as possible.

Dr. O'Donnell earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at University of Michigan and his medical degree from Case Western University where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Duke University receiving the Odgen award for exhibiting dedication, compassion, leadership and professionalism during orthopedic training. He continued his advanced training in adult reconstruction and joint replacement through fellowship at The Hospital for Special Surgery, the #1 orthopedic hospital in the nation.

Dr. O'Donnell has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. His research has been presented at national and international meetings. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).

Research Interests

Dr. O'Donnell's research interests are centered on patient-reported outcomes after primary and revision arthroplasty. He has a particular interest in quality improvement, infection prevention along with treatment and biomechanics of the hip and knee.
