Clinical Experience
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Spine Surgery Fellowship is a one-year program in which the spine surgery fellow will obtain a comprehensive experience in spinal problems, with an emphasis on diagnostics and the operative and non-operative treatment of a wide variety of spinal disorders, including:
- Evaluation of cervical, thoracic, and lumbar disorders
- Trauma, infection, neoplasm, degenerative conditions, deformities, and complex revision/reconstruction patients
Fellows participate in approximately 400 surgical procedures during the year and have ample opportunity to become proficient in a wide variety of surgical techniques and procedures.
In addition to their clinical duties, fellows are responsible for:
- Interacting with and teaching orthopedic residents and medical students
- Participating in weekly Orthopedic Surgery Grand Rounds and monthly Spine Indications conferences
- Presenting one Grand Rounds and one Spine Indications talk per year
- Presenting at the yearly Research Forum
