Fellows will have approximately 25% protected academic time throughout the year to engage in scholarly activities.

The fellow is expected to develop or participate in at least one research project within the field of sports medicine. Research topics are tailored to align with the fellow’s individual interests and career goals.

Participation in the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) Research and Leadership Workshop for Fellows, typically held in late July or early August, is required.

By the end of the fellowship, each fellow must fulfill one of the following scholarly requirements:

  • Submit an original research or review article for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Present a clinical case, research poster, or podium presentation at a national professional or scientific meeting.

The fellow is also required to attend a weekly sports medicine conference featuring topics in sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitation, MRI clinical correlation, and journal reviews. As part of the conference series, each fellow will deliver a 45-minute lecture every 6 to 8 weeks.
