Program Overview
.
The Pain Medicine Fellowship Program accepts one PM&R-trained, and one anesthesia-trained fellow each year. Our goal is to train pain medicine specialists who, in conjunction with other members of a multidisciplinary team, are able to:
- Develop and implement individualized pain treatment plans based on comprehensive assessment of pain and related comorbidities and monitor and adjust treatments to optimize outcomes
- Elicit and translate a patient’s values and goals into relevant plans of care, with sensitivity and awareness of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrate judgment, competence, and technical proficiency in use of interventional pain management techniques in patients with complex pain problems
- Develop and foster positive team attitudes and use strategies to improve team performance
- Appreciate roles of other specialists in meeting pain management challenges
- Appraise and assimilate scientific evidence relevant to pain medicine
