Robust pain experience; neurorehabilitation procedures; high faculty to resident ratio.

CrossFit and SCUBA diving.

Favorite part about UW Madison PMR?

The faculty, staff, and all my coresidents who have been supporting me in my journey so far. I feel very blessed to work with such a kind and empathetic group to serve those with chronic pain and/or disability.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

Cooking, fishkeeping, Netflix, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with friends.

Clinical interests?

Chronic neck and back pain, cancer pain, pelvic pain, migraine/headache, hypermobility, spasticity, neuromodulation, fluoroscopic/ultrasound guided procedures, intrathecal drug delivery systems, and chemodenervation.

Favorite place in the Madison area?

I love the state parks including Blue Mounds and Devil’s Lake. There are lots of places to cycle, cross country ski and run in and around Madison!

Favorite part about UW Madison PM&R?

My favorite parts of our program are our close-knit residents and faculty and diverse clinical experiences. I also appreciate the collaboration with neurology and orthopedic attendings to allow us broad experiences.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

I enjoy cycling, running, and cross country skiing as well as going on camping adventures

Favorite part about UW Madison PMR?

The extremely supportive faculty. Everyone really cares and is invested in our education. My awesome co-residents also make my time here much more enjoyable!

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

Cooking, baking, finding new fun spots in the Madison area, playing with my pup.

Clinical interests?

I’m still early in my training, but I like spine, and I think I will really enjoy spasticity management as well!

I love visiting Capitol Square and exploring downtown Madison!

Favorite part about UW Madison PMR?

My top two favorite parts of our program are spending time with my co-residents outside of work and exploring the wide range of clinical practice opportunities through our diverse rotation schedule.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

You can usually find me watching football in the fall or fishing in Lake Mendota in the spring and summer. I also have two dogs and love spending time with them!

I enjoy archery, fishing, and camping.

The terrace! I love having such a great place to hang out with friends by the water.

As corny as it is, the people. I feel so supported by both the attendings and my co-residents.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

Sailing, knitting, cross stitching, traveling.

Clinical interests?

I’m still trying to figure this one out – hopefully, I’ll find my direction over the next year or so.

Amber McKenna, MD

Favorite place in the Madison area?

I’m brand new here, so I’m still discovering Madison! But so far, I’ve loved every trail I’ve explored with my dogs! The lakes are awesome, too, and there are tons of lakefront parks and trails I’m really looking forward to checking out!

Favorite part about UW Madison PM&R?

The people – everyone is exceptionally kind and helpful! Every person you interact with wants to see you succeed! It really is remarkable! Everyone was also super helpful and supportive with the moving process!

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

Cheering for the Saints and Yankees! Taking my dogs Margeaux and Louis for adventure walks! Crafting and making memories with my best friend and her kids! I love creating costumes and holiday outfits and look forward to any excuse to wear them, especially Mardi Gras with my family!

Clinical interests?

Pediatrics! Also, global health, firearm injury prevention, and distance to rehab disparities!

The fantastic faculty. They love to teach and are invested in making our residency experience and education the absolute best it can be.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

Relaxing with my wife, son, and dog, board games, electronics/video games, hunting, fishing, and recreational team sports.
